Priorities.....

DAMNIT! Why can't the US be more like Europe?? Scratch that. Why can't governments throughout the world be more flexible?! I'm really beginning to think that governments are not meant to rule millions of citizens. How can a country with citizens with such differing opinions possibly choose one course that will suit the entire population? It doesn't make sense.

It seems to me that smaller governments would be more appropriate for allowing their citizens to have a more powerful pull in the direction of their homeland. Personally, I would greatly prefer to live in a place where everyone was more holistic. I can only imagine what it would be like to live in a country where people thought world issues were important. I think it has gotten to the point where people feel like they don't have an impact, so instead of standing up and doing something about it, they instead just slide by. Its kind of like High School.... you know, if you don't make eye contact with the teacher, maybe they won't call on you to read to the class. Well, unfortunately for all of us, its those people that are going to ruin the world for us.

I'm tired of talking about politics with peers only to hear a response "I don't like politics" or "I'm not voting" or, the best -- "I don't care about that." Well, there is no better way to lose my respect then to say that you don't care to learn about the most important topics in the world today. The fact that the world is warmer than it ever has been, that AIDS, along with curable diseases, are killing millions in Africa, that fanatical religious followers are causing some of the most horrific injustices in the history of the world and the public turns a blind eye, the fact that the US continues to be ignorant with its impact on the environment, etc etc etc.

How can we possibly consider ourselves the greatest nation in the world when we continue to destroy the world in more ways than almost every other country?? We are the biggest hypocrites and it is going to come back to bite us all in the ass.

I am coming to a point in my life when I need to make a choice. Am I a hypocrite too? Or, will I man-up and be the person I truly want to be. Should I be friends with people that have differing beliefs than I do? I just don't know... where do I draw the line?
